Last weekend we visited EXOTIKA 2024 in the Czech Republic – the country’s largest exotic-animal exhibition, attracting both professionals and families alike. The event was divided into three main halls. The first hall, which we explored first, featured ornamental birds and small mammals.
We were impressed by the setup of the cages for the small and medium-sized birds: most were designed with three solid sides, with only the front and top made of mesh, creating a calmer, more secure environment for the birds. Other cages were fully open-mesh, housing the more resilient species, many of them beautifully decorated with plants. The larger parrots and exotic birds were kept in aviaries built by different manufacturers, several of whom were present at the exhibition, offering their products for sale. There were also animal-rescue foundations, where visitors could get advice on responsible bird keeping. Finally, the pavilion included plant vendors with an amazing variety—from tropical exotics to bonsai trees—making the exhibition a paradise for both bird enthusiasts and nature lovers.
In the second hall, most of the exhibited birds were waterfowl and pheasants. Another section of the exhibition was dedicated to aquaristics, where visitors could admire beautifully designed aquariums of all sizes. All the major brands were represented, offering a wide selection of equipment and accessories for sale. This hall also hosted a guinea pig exhibition, while the upper floor featured the Czech National Bird Championship, showcasing exotic birds, cockatiels, and the stunning lovebirds exhibited by the Czech Agapornis Club.
